Privacy policy

This policy explains how LocalMaker collects, uses, stores and discloses personal information when you browse our site, place an order or contact us. It applies to online shoppers in South Africa and is read with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013.

The information we collect for orders and enquiries

LocalMaker collects personal information that is needed to process purchases, arrange delivery and respond to customer requests. The information we collect may include your name, contact details, delivery address, billing details, purchase history and any notes you share when asking about gifting, custom bundles or care advice.

  • Contact and address details supplied through the enquiry form on our contact page
  • Order details, delivery instructions and gift message text
  • Payment and transaction records handled through secure payment channels
  • Records of replacement requests, delivery coordination and customer support notes

How your information is used in day to day trading

We use personal information to fulfil orders, coordinate delivery across Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Pretoria and Stellenbosch, and manage services such as gift wrapping, gift notes, curated gift boxes and bulk orders. Information is also used to confirm stock availability, support returns or replacements where applicable and keep accurate records for accounting and compliance.

Astros Marketing (Pty) Ltd operates the online platform for LocalMaker and may process information on our instructions for admin, hosting, security and communications linked to the store. We only use information for lawful business purposes and in a manner that is relevant to the service you have requested.

When information may be shared

We do not sell personal information. Information may be shared only where it is necessary for order fulfilment, legal compliance or running the business in a responsible way.

  • Couriers and delivery partners handling shipment and proof of delivery
  • Payment service providers and banking channels used for transactions
  • Professional advisers where legal, tax or accounting assistance is required
  • Authorities where disclosure is required by law, court order or regulation

Any third party that receives information is expected to handle it with appropriate care and to use it only for the agreed purpose.

Storage, security and retention of records

We keep personal information for as long as it is needed for the purpose for which it was collected, or for longer where a law, audit requirement or dispute resolution process requires retention. Records linked to orders, invoices and delivery tracking may therefore be kept for a period that is reasonable and lawful.

We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards to reduce the risk of loss, unauthorised access, misuse or alteration. No online system is completely risk free, so users are asked to keep their own login details, device access and payment credentials private.

Your rights under POPIA

You have rights over your personal information. Where the law allows, you may ask to access, correct or update information held by us. You may also object to certain processing, request deletion where retention is not required by law, or withdraw consent for direct marketing where that consent was given.

  • Ask for a copy of the information we hold about you
  • Ask for corrections to inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Object to direct marketing messages
  • Raise a formal complaint if you think your details were handled badly

Requests must be made through the enquiry form on our contact page so that we can verify identity and deal with the matter properly.

Cookies, marketing and policy changes

Our website may use cookies and similar tools to support shopping functions, remember preferences and understand how visitors use the site. You can manage browser settings to limit cookies, although some features may not work properly if they are disabled.

If we send product notes, gifting prompts or shop updates, those messages will follow the consent settings and opt out choices you have given. We may revise this policy now and then to reflect changes in law, operations or the way we manage records. The version live on the site at the time will apply from the day it is posted.
