Products, natural variation and care
LocalMaker sells handmade ceramics, textiles, wood and decor items made by South African makers. Because these pieces are handmade, variations in glaze, weave, grain, texture, colour and finish are part of their character and are not faults. Images are provided to give a fair sense of each item, but slight differences can occur between pieces.
Care advice is given in good faith and should be followed carefully. Ceramics may need gentle washing by hand, textiles may require cool washing or spot cleaning depending on the fibre, and timber pieces should be kept dry and away from prolonged direct sunlight or damp conditions. In coastal areas such as Cape Town and Durban, moisture in the air can affect wood and natural fibres if they are not stored properly.
- Handle fragile items with care during unpacking and use.
- Follow any item-specific care notes supplied with the order.
- Protect wood from standing water and harsh detergents.
- Allow textiles to dry fully before storage.
Orders, gift services and custom bundles
Orders are subject to availability and confirmation. Gift wrapping, gift notes, curated gift boxes, housewarming sets, wedding gifting, corporate gifting, gift registry help, bulk orders, custom bundles and delivery coordination are handled with reasonable care, but some items may not be suitable for every request. Where a custom bundle is requested, the contents, finish and packaging are confirmed at the time of order processing.
Special requests must be suitable for the item type and practical for delivery. If a requested combination cannot be supplied, an alternative may be offered. Any gift note content must be lawful, respectful and appropriate for inclusion with the parcel.
- Custom requests depend on stock and maker availability.
- Bulk orders may require separate confirmation of contents and packaging.
- Gift registry help is provided for selected items and gift lists.
- Gift wrapping and gift notes are added where suitable for the product.
Pricing, payment and stock status
Prices are shown in Rand and may change without prior notice. The price displayed at the time of checkout is the price that applies to that order, unless there is a clear error. All orders are subject to payment confirmation before dispatch. If a payment cannot be verified or is reversed, the order may be held or cancelled.
Stock levels may change as items are sold through the site. As many products are handmade in small quantities, an item may become unavailable after an order is placed. If that happens, the customer will be informed and an alternative, refund or adjusted arrangement may be offered where suitable.
- All prices are listed in Rand unless stated otherwise.
- Promotions, if offered, apply only for the stated period and conditions.
- Orders are not guaranteed until payment is confirmed.
- Obvious pricing errors may be corrected before fulfilment.
Delivery across South Africa
LocalMaker arranges delivery across South Africa, including Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Pretoria and Stellenbosch, as well as Woodstock, the Southern Suburbs and the Atlantic Seaboard. Delivery timing depends on the items ordered, destination, packing needs and courier movement. Some areas may require added handling where access is limited or where fragile parcels need extra protection.
Risk passes in line with the delivery terms supplied with the order. It is the customer’s responsibility to provide the correct delivery address, access details and recipient information. If a parcel is returned because the address was incomplete or incorrect, additional delivery charges may apply. Large or fragile orders may need signed receipt on delivery.
- Check that the delivery address is full and correct.
- Inspect parcels on arrival and report visible damage promptly.
- Keep proof of delivery and packaging until the order has been checked.
- Provide access instructions for estates, offices or gated premises where needed.
Liability, complaints and legal limits
LocalMaker takes reasonable care in describing products and arranging orders, but it does not accept liability for losses that arise from misuse, improper care, unauthorised modification, or circumstances beyond its control. Handmade goods are valued for their variation, and minor differences from images or descriptions are not grounds for complaint where they fall within normal craft variation.
If something arrives damaged or incomplete, please raise it through the enquiry form on the contact page and include clear supporting details. Where suitable, replacement help may be offered, depending on inspection, stock on hand and the nature of the problem. Nothing in these terms takes away rights that cannot lawfully be excluded under South African law.
- Keep packaging, labels and supporting images where a complaint is made.
- Damage claims are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
- LocalMaker may decline a claim where the item was mishandled after delivery.
- All legal rights that apply under South African law remain protected.
