Curated Gift Boxes

LocalMaker curated gift boxes bring together handmade ceramics, textiles and decor that sit well together in one considered gift. Each box is put together in Woodstock for delivery across South Africa, with options for homes, weddings, teams and housewarmings.

A gift box with pieces that belong together

Our curated gift boxes are built around items that work as a set, not as loose extras. A typical box may combine a mug or small bowl, a woven cloth or table linen, and one or two decor pieces such as a candle holder, small vase or wooden accent. The result feels thoughtful and practical, with enough variety to suit a shelf, kitchen or coffee table.

We focus on handmade homeware made by South African makers, so finishes are never identical from one item to the next. That variation is part of the charm, though it also means we match pieces with care so the colours, scale and textures sit nicely together. If you need a gentler palette or a brighter set, we can build the box around that direction.

What can be placed inside the box

The contents depend on the occasion and the size of the gift, but the materials usually come from these groups:

  • Ceramics such as stoneware mugs, bowls, jugs, side plates and small vessels
  • Textiles such as tea towels, napkins, runners and woven cloths in cotton or linen blends
  • Wooden items such as trays, spoons, coasters and serving pieces
  • Decor pieces such as candle holders, vases, planters and small display objects
  • Optional extras like gift notes, wrapping paper and simple filler for safe packing

We keep the box sizes practical. Smaller gift boxes are suited to a single place setting or a compact home gift, while larger boxes can carry a fuller mix for wedding gifting or corporate orders. If you are sending to a flat, office or guest house, the mix can be chosen so it arrives neat and easy to unpack.

How the curation is put together

Every curated box starts with the use case. A housewarming box may lean toward everyday ceramics and a useful textile, while a wedding gift can feel more decorative and keepsake driven. Corporate boxes often need a balanced, neutral look with pieces that suit many different homes. We consider colour, texture, size and packing weight so the final set feels measured and not overdone.

Our team checks the fit of each item before the box is packed. Thin-glazed ceramics are wrapped separately, textiles are folded cleanly and wood is kept away from anything that may mark it in transit. The aim is to make the opening experience pleasant, but also to keep the contents protected on the way to Johannesburg, Durban, Pretoria, Stellenbosch or anywhere else we deliver. Small details matter here, and we do not force pieces into a box just because they are available.

  • Pick the occasion and budget range
  • Select a colour direction or leave it open
  • Choose the product mix and add-ons
  • Pack for safe delivery and presentation

Pricing that follows the contents, not a fixed formula

Curated gift box pricing depends on the number of items, the materials included and any extra presentation work such as gift notes or layered wrapping. A box with one ceramic piece and a textile will sit at a different level to a larger set with several handmade items, so we quote according to the contents rather than forcing every order into the same shape.

If you are placing a bulk order for client gifting, wedding tables or staff hampers, we can keep the same overall look across multiple boxes while varying the exact mix inside each one. That helps when you need consistency without repeating the same contents in every pack. We can also work with a defined spend per box, which makes planning easier for seasonal gifting or year end orders.

Packing, delivery and the route to your door

Gift boxes are packed in Woodstock and sent out through our delivery coordination process. For Cape Town areas such as the Southern Suburbs and Atlantic Seaboard, the box may travel with the rest of our local dispatches, while deliveries further afield are prepared for mainline courier movement. We pack with the weather in mind too, especially for coastal humidity in Cape Town and the warmer conditions up north.

Each box is arranged so the opening order makes sense. Heavier ceramic items go lower in the pack, textiles cushion the contents, and fragile pieces are separated so they do not knock against each other. If the box is going straight to a gift recipient, we can include a note and keep the outer presentation tidy. For office or reception deliveries, the packing is practical and clear, with no loose filler spilling everywhere.

  • Woodstock packing for local and national delivery
  • Protective wrapping for ceramics and delicate decor
  • Gift note placement if required
  • Delivery coordination for single or multiple addresses

Aftercare for the items inside the box

Handmade homeware usually lasts well if it is treated with a little care. Most ceramics can be washed by hand with mild soap and a soft cloth, while some items may be suitable for gentle dishwasher use depending on the glaze and shape. Textiles are best kept dry and cleaned according to their fibre type, and wooden pieces should be wiped clean and dried properly after use. If a surface marks, a light clean is often enough, but abrasive pads can scratch glaze or timber.

We also help with replacement guidance if something arrives damaged or if the contents need to be matched to a wider gift order. That support matters when the box is going to a wedding table or a corporate handover where presentation is part of the job. If you are unsure how to care for a specific item in the box, ask for advice through the enquiry form on our contact page and we can guide you based on the material.

Questions we get asked

Can a curated gift box be made around a colour theme?

Yes. We can work with soft neutrals, earthy tones, brighter accents or a mixed palette, depending on the homeware pieces available and the occasion.

Do you only make one standard box size?

No. We put together small, medium and larger boxes, and we can also work to a spend limit or a list of preferred items if you have one.

Can curated gift boxes be sent to more than one address?

Yes. This is useful for client gifting, wedding guests or staff hampers. We coordinate the packing and delivery details for each address.
